This is the Way (Part 7)

The Way Given

This is the way!

We have arrived at the week when we celebrate "the way, the truth, and the life." The birth of Jesus was a birth of hope and joy. His birth brought each of us a story of salvation that gives us eternal hope. Each of our stories differs in how we came to know Jesus as our personal Savior and Lord. While each individual story and life chapter are unique, the final chapter is the same. The final chapter of each of our life stories—of all those who know Jesus as their Savior—ends with worship at the feet of Jesus. The Word says,

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10-11

This is the final chapter in the book of every Christ-follower. If we know that the last chapter for each of us ends the same way, why do we allow fear, worry, and discomfort to take root in our lives? The birth of Jesus gives us a hope for eternity—a hope that surpasses all other aspects of our lives. How do I know this? Jesus was once questioned by a group of Jews about His true identity and authority. Here is the exchange:

“Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:57-58

Jesus clearly gave us a picture of who He is. He existed before all time and will be after all time. He has the power to execute His authority and the ability to choose to express His love. He is full of both passion and judgment, all at the same time. He was, He is, and He always will be. So, who really is this King of kings and Lord of lords we worship today? Who is this newborn child who brought so much hope to the earth? He said, "I Am." What does that mean? How have we seen, and how will we continue to see, "I Am"?
