Walking Into 2021
As we conclude 2020 and turn the page to 2021, we also close this blog series entitled "This is the Way." While I believe this series could continue, perhaps the title will be used for something new in the future. So, 2020—what do you think? A year that should have been about vision for many turned into a year of challenge, disruption, and feelings of being overwhelmed. So, where do we go from here? What are our next steps? What should we expect in 2021?
“And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers: And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:20-21
Over and over again in scripture, the Word is clear that we will face adversity and affliction. But it is in these moments that we, as followers of Jesus, are called to rise to a higher level of expectation. We are called with a holy calling, a high calling—a calling that goes far beyond what any human mind can imagine. We possess the seven anointings of the Holy Spirit:
“And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;” Isaiah 11:2
“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” II Timothy 1:6-9
This is the way we should walk daily. This is the confidence we must have as we enter 2021. Fear cannot hold us down. What is happening around us cannot hold us down. We must walk into 2021 with a victorious mindset, not a victim mindset. We may not know what the future holds, but we certainly know who holds the future. We are partakers of the afflictions of the gospel, but that only happens according to the power of God. So, are you ready to walk into 2021 with boldness, confidence, and courage? Do not turn to your left or right; walk the narrow path that leads to eternal life.
As we close 2020 and step into 2021, I leave you with the words of the Lord to Joshua as he began to take over leadership from Moses. May God bless each of you in 2021.
“Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying, Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:1-9
